Compressors shouldn't be used with an edge of break-up tone
Compressors normalize input levels. This is counterproductive to achieving an Edge of break-up tone where the goal is to be able to transition between a clean and over-driven tone depending on how hard or soft you're playing--in other words, depending on the input level.
A compressor is often not needed anyways because Clipping is a form of compression.
